Recalling Afrika Bambaataa, Mantronix, Drexciya, and Model 500 and the electro-techno-house axis infamously associated with Detroit, Chicago, and New York, the chrome-plated electro-funk of Plus Device's “Body Heat” kicks an ‘80s-styled drum machine groove into gear amidst bright synthesizer stabs while robotic voices chant “You give the kind of body heat I need.” The four-track EP pairs three variations of the cyber-sexed title song with the equally punchy “You Know I'm V.I.P.” Though the song tends towards the overly repetitive, one hopes the group (a duo whose identities aren't revealed) retains the sleek gleam on its upcoming full-length release.
